A couple of political parties have started conducting medical camps in rural areas in the recent past to help the poor. The Tamil Nadu Thawheedh Jamaath conducted a free medical camp on Sunday at Melapalayam, a backward area under the Tirunelveli Corporation limits. Specialists from the fields of obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, neurology, dermatology, orthopaedics, ENT, nephrology, cardiology, general medicine and leading surgeons of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai took part in the camp to offer medical assistance to over 1,000 patients. Since the veteran gynaecologist like Rajam Authilingom was roped in, women of Melapalayam, who are mostly engaged in beedi rolling, benefited a lot. Apart from medicines, scan and ECG tests were made available free of cost.
