BANGALORE: Direct Post was launched here on Tuesday by the Secretary, Department of Posts, R. Ganeshan. This service will help customers and business organisations distribute publicity material for marketing a product to a large number of households in a particular area through the post office. The postage is Re. 1 for each article (intra-city) and Rs. 2 (inter-city). Mr. Ganeshan said the Department of Posts aims at providing customer-friendly services at competitive rates. Over 17 per cent of the funds allocated to the department is utilised for upgrading technology, he said. Direct Post is expected to make a dent in the distribution of pamphlets that are inserted in newspapers by vendors. The Department of Posts also offers Business Post, a one-stop solution for bulk mailers; Speed Post Passport Service in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs for issue of passports; Express Parcel Post; Data Post; e-Post; e-Bill Post; Retail Post; and Media Post.
