EC for two-child norm

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Election Commission on Tuesday suggested barring people having more than two children from contesting panchayat polls.

``A proposal to bar people having more than two children from contesting panchayat elections has been put before the State Government on the pattern followed in Rajasthan and Haryana,'' State Election Commissioner Aparamita Prasad Singh told newspersons here.

The Commission has also made a suggestion to check people with criminal background from contesting panchayat elections, he said.
