CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Governor and Administrator of U.T. Chandigarh, S.F. Rodrigues, on Tuesday called for developing an "IT based online strong Healthcare Network" to harmonise the resources available with Government and private healthcare agencies and establish a strong partnership with the community. Presiding over a meeting of senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration, PGIMER, General Hospital, Sector 16 and Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, General Rodrigues called for technological connectivity between super-specialty hospitals, remote hospitals and panchayats in rural areas. Suggesting the creation of a data bank through `Electronic Medical Records' of the rural population, he directed the Health Department to conduct a village-wise analysis of children health needs and prepare a health status summary. Specific area categorisation should be done for different kinds of healthcare problems and people should be educated to approach the concerned hospitals for getting specialised and relevant treatment. He also directed that special buses should run twice in a week from the U.T. villages to the major hospitals to transport the patients on a set schedule. Efficient ambulance services should be made available for emergencies. Expressing concern over the appalling rural sanitation in U.T. villages, he asked the officials to set things right. He also directed the Home Secretary, Krishna Mohan, to name a project manager for this project.
