NEW DELHI: A husband-wife duo, along with six other women and four men, have been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly indulging in prostitution. According to the police, complaints were received at Bhajanpura police station in North-East Delhi about a prostitution racket being run from a rented accommodation at C-Block. The police sent two decoys on Sunday and struck a deal with the main accused following which a raid was carried out and all the 12 accused, including four customers, were arrested. The police said the main accused, Riyajuddin and his wife, Parveen, had been running the racket for the past sometime. Earlier, Riyajuddin was into silk trade but had suffered losses. He did odd jobs for a while but was presently unemployed. In order to earn quick money, he put Parveen, his first wife, into prostitution. He rented the accommodation in C-Block for the purpose where his wife would entertain the clients. Gradually, he spread his network and hired more women in the racket. He contacted clients over the phone. The police said most of the arrested women came from a poor background. Almost all of them had been pushed into prostitution after they were abandoned by their husbands or parents. A couple of them had entered the racket to earn quick money also. Further investigations in the case are on.
