White Paper on water scheme sought

UDHAGAMANDALAM: Is the recently implemented Guerency water supply scheme in Coonoor serving its purpose? This was what many asked at a meeting of the Coonoor Consumer Protection Association (CCPA) held recently. With the participants wondering whether the scheme to supply water to Coonoor and surroundings from a source in Guerency, a few kilometres from the town was benefiting the people or if lakhs of rupees had gone down the drain, a resolution urging the civic administration to present a White Paper on the project was passed.

In another resolution, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation was requested to resume town bus services between Coonoor and Bettatty. The meeting pointed out that ever since the services were discontinued, the commuters had been subjected to considerable hardship.

President of the CCPA S. Manoharan, who presided, said that if cooperative institutions reduced interest on fixed deposits, the depositors could take up the matter with the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum. Vice-president of the Association V.L. Devaraj welcomed and secretary Subramanian presented a report.
