HYDERABAD: Farmers and BJP leaders of Ranga Reddy district have appealed to the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) authorities to restrict the width of the proposed outer ring road (ORR) to about 300 feet instead of 500 feet. The unprecedented 500 feet width road would displace hundreds of farmers, industries, students, employees and workers in the areas through which the ORR alignment would pass, said the Ranga Reddy district BJP president, S. Malla Reddy, and ORR Victims Association convenor S. Surender Reddy here on Tuesday. If the ORR width was restricted to below 300 ft, people would voluntarily cooperate in the land acquisition process and it would also bring down the project cost. An eight-lane road could be laid comfortably within this width, Mr. Malla Reddy said. HUDA Chairman D. Sudheer Reddy and ORR project officials who visited Ghatkesar, Hayatnagar, Tukkuguda areas had said that a four-member committee would look into the objections and take a decision soon.
Representation submitted
Mr. Surender Reddy and Mr. Malla Reddy said that they submitted a representation to Mr. Sudheer Reddy on Wednesday last to reduce the width of the ORR to protect properties in Medchal area. But to their surprise, a notification was issued on Sunday without the promised physical inspection of properties, they alleged.
