Power shutdown

The following areas will not have power supply from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 21 owing to a shutdown for maintenance works at Seeranaickenpalayam sub-station: Seeranaickenpalayam and surrounding areas, P.N. Pudur, Vadavalli, Marudamalai, Vedapatti, Veerakeralam, Selvapuram, Velandipalayam, Saibaba Colony, R.S. Puram, Bazaar Street 33 division and Ponnaiahrajapuram.

Fined

Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) officials carried out surprise checks at Pongalur Town, Pongalur Rural and Koduvai in Palladam circle to crackdown on rules violators. A release said a fine of Rs. 2,500 was imposed on a consumer. It said surprise checks would be carried out frequently and warned against violating rules to tap power.

Aadi puja

Special pujas will be performed on Fridays during the Tamil month of Aadi at Shri Mahalakshmi Mandir on Pollachi Road. A release from the Coimbatore Sri Mahalakshmi Mandir Trust said the pujas would be performed on July 22 and 29 and August 5 and 12.

Course

Samskritha Bharathi will conduct a 10-day free course in spoken Sanskrit from July 24. It will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Shivanjali Temple of Fine Arts in Vadavalli.

Observed

PSG College of Pharmacy and PSG Rural Health Centre in Vedapatti village on the city outskirts observed World Population Day recently. National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of the college took out a rally through the village to spread the message of population control and educate people on the benefits of small family.

Faculty members of the college spoke on `Equality and Women Empowerment' and called upon women to take up responsibilities required for the development of their families.

A skit on population control was also performed as part of the programme, a release issued here said.
