CHANDIGARH: The Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission (SGJC), while expelling Bibi Jagir Kaur from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday, charged her with extending undue favour to the kin of Akali Dal leaders. She allegedly admitted them into the SGPC-run Shri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research under the non-resident Indian quota. The other respondents were acquitted. The SGJC said Bibi Jagir Kaur was the president of the SGPC from 1999 to 2001 when the mistake in the admissions was made. "A number of students were admitted in the medical college of the SGPC against the NRI quota where each candidate was required to deposit $75,000 for the five-year course, but Bibi Jagir Kaur, while throwing all the norms to wind, arbitrarily reduced the fee for a few students and some others were shifted to general category from the NRI quota deliberately to minimise their fee structure," the Commission ruled. The SGPC is the apex body managing the affairs of historic shrines in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. It also manages some educational institutions, which are run on the donations offered by the devotees all over the world. Bibi Jagir Kaur, who has 90 days to move the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the verdict, said the SGJC was being managed through remote control by the Congress, particularly Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. The Chief Minister dismissed the allegation as baseless. While the Chief Minister dismissed the allegation levelled by Bibi Jagir Kaur as baseless, the SGJC chief Mr. Patti said the commission was contemplating initiating contempt proceedings. He said the decision of the commission was unanimous, as it included the consent of those two members, who had been and it had been appointed before the present government assumed office.
