Differences with real estate partner could be the motive, say police

  • Police search for promoter of real estate firm on
  • Firm office at Tarnaka raided, some employees arrested
  • Victim could have been strangulated: forensic experts

HYDERABAD: The body found buried beneath the kitchen platform of a house in Uppal on Monday has been identified as that of a realtor Navesh Murthy.

The police said that rivalry with a former partner could have led to his death.

Search is on for the promoter of Jana Harsha Real Estates Ramana Murthy who also runs a political weekly Vijaya Viharam in connection with the crime, ACP of Malkajgiri P. Prabhakar Reddy told presspersons on Tuesday.

House owner Lingaiah was working as a Deputy General Manager in the Customer Service Centre of the company. The police raided the company office in Tarnaka and arrested some employees.

Navesh's body was found naked and forensic experts, who conducted a post-mortem on the spot, said he could have been strangulated. There were also traces of alcohol in the body.

    Differences crop up

Mr. Prabhakar Reddy said that Navesh Murthy and Ramana Murthy along with Jagadish Yadav set up a real estate firm in Dilsukhnagar five years ago. Serious differences cropped up between them over proprietorship.

With differences deepening, Navesh shifted his wife Padmavathi to Vijayawada and used to visit her every Sunday.

According to the police, Navesh was last seen with his friend Sarwar from Vijayawada at Somajiguda on Friday.

"He left suddenly saying there was a call from an Inspector Vijay Singh. He told me that he would meet me later in the day. I waited the entire day and left for Vijayawada on Friday night," Sarwar told the police.

He visited Navesh's Vijayawada home on Sunday enquiring about his whereabouts.

When his wife said he did not come and that his mobile phone was not reachable, Sarwar along with his friends rushed to Hyderabad.

Sarwar along with a Medak TRS leader B. Yadav identified the body.

    Running feud

In the running feud between them, Navesh allegedly distributed pamphlets defaming Ramana Murthy. In retaliation, the latter allegedly egged on a group of women led by a city-based voluntary organisation, Jaya Bharath, against him. They allegedly attacked Navesh at his house in Punjagutta, tonsured and paraded him. Later, he lodged a complaint with the Punjagutta police.

The organisation's leader sometime later filed a case with the Lalaguda police against Navesh Murthy alleging that his men kidnapped her, but she managed to escape when the van stopped at Kukatpally.
