Woman found murdered in lodge

BANGALORE: A 35-year-old woman was found murdered in a lodge on Hosur Road in the Adugodi police station limits on Monday afternoon. Police suspect that a 40-year-old man, who checked into the lodge with her on Monday morning, could be responsible for the murder.

The victim's body bore multiple stab wounds on her stomach and neck. The body was lying on a blood-drenched bed. It was first noticed by a room boy, who opened the unlocked room at about 6 p.m. on Monday.

Alerted by the lodge manager, the Adugodi police removed the body and shifted it to Victoria hospital for post-mortem.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and the man, who identified himself as Raghu from Triveni Road in Yeshwanthapur, had checked into room No. 104. The address was later found to be false, the police said.

The man was last seen by the lobby staff, who quoted him as saying he was on his way to a medical store. The Adugodi police have taken up a case of murder.

Suicide

Uma Maheshwari (23) allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a sari tied to a ceiling fan at her in-laws' house in Srikanteswaranagar in the Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits on Monday.

Based on a complaint from her uncle, Ganesh, police have registered a case of dowry harassment. According to the complainant, Uma was frequently harassed for dowry by her husband, Dinesh Kumar, and his relatives.

Dinesh Kumar, a diploma engineer in a garment firm, married Uma 14 months ago. Ganesh, who had brought up Uma from her childhood, had given Kumar the required dowry amount at the time of the wedding.

Uma's body was later shifted to Bowring hospital. The Mahalakshmi Layout police are investigating.
