No new structures in flyover path, says MCH

Corporation mulls transfer of development rights to those losing complexes

HYDERABAD: The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad will not give any new permission for commercial complexes on stretches wherever road widening and flyover are proposed.

To speed up acquisition of properties on these roads, the corporation is thinking of providing `transfer of development' rights to those losing their structures, Commissioner Sanjay Jaju told public representatives at a workshop here on Tuesday.

Building permissions will be given as per the new road development plan, he said. Mr. Jaju said the corporation is making foolproof plans before going ahead with construction of four new flyovers by sewing up issues like land acquisition and designs.

"Flyover construction will take some time because we are very careful on technical inputs, area specific designs and financial aspects," he said. Additional Commissioner (Planning and Projects) K. Dhanunjaya Reddy said technical and financial bids for Punjagutta and Greenlands flyovers would be opened on July 22. Contractors will be finalised soon.

Chandrayanagutta flyover will be a straight one and the clover design will be taken up later after acquiring land. Senior officials are involved in sorting out the matter on the Nalgonda flyover caught in a land dispute with the Disabled Welfare Department.

MRTS on three routes

Increase in private vehicles cause traffic jams and result in air pollution. Mr. Reddy said flyover construction would be taken up during night.. There is no alternative to public transport, affirmed Additional Commissioner N.V.S. Reddy (Traffic and Transport) during his presentation on the proposed Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS).

Ten major traffic corridors are prone to jams and MRTS is approved on three routes — Miyapur to Chaitanyapuri; Tarnaka to Hi-Tec City and Secunderabad to Falanuma — by the Government. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 6,366 crores and land is being identified for stations, terminals and depots.

Documents are being finalised for global expression of interest.
