Subsidy for farmers under farm mechanisation scheme

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The Agriculture Department is processing applications of farmers for enjoying subsidy under the farm mechanisation scheme.

The Government is extending subsidy up to 50 per cent of the cost and not exceeding Rs. 30,000 per unit. The department has already begun the process of considering farmers' claims for this agricultural season. The subsidy scheme will be applied to power tillers, cultivators and other agricultural implements, but tractors and mini-tractors are exempted from this.

The Joint Director of Agriculture, S. Jagadeeswara Reddy, says that the farmers can approach the mandal-level agricultural officers and submit their applications.

A good number of farmers are expected to avail themselves of this scheme in view of the good rain and better prospects of water availability this year.

The Government is introducing many schemes to boost agro-industry as well. Mr. Reddy says that the agricultural officials are geared to meet the needs of farmers as the agricultural season has already begun.

Paddy farmers can reap huge benefits out of the subsidy scheme as it has covered many agricultural implements being used in paddy cultivation.

A majority of farmers in Krishna district cultivate paddy with its coverage reaching nearly two-thirds of the total agricultural area in the district.
