Yamuna water level receding

NEW DELHI: The water level in the Yamuna has started receding and on Tuesday evening it was flowing at 204.53 metres, 30 centimetres below the danger mark. On Monday, the river had crossed the danger level.

According to the Flood Control Room officials, on Tuesday morning the water level in the river started receding. At 6 a.m., the level stood at 204.75 metres, while in the evening it was 204.53 metres. On Monday the river level stood at 204.86 metres against the danger level mark of 204.83 metres.

The officials said on Friday, over 72,000 cusecs of water was released by Haryana from Hathnikund barrage. However, the water reached the Capital on Monday morning swelling the river, but the water level remained stable during the day. The river is now gradually receding and situation might improve within the next few days, they added.

Meanwhile, a large number of people living in the low lying areas along the Yamuna have moved to higher ground after water entered their shanties. They have been provided temporary shelters by the Delhi Government.
