NEW DELHI: The Delhi police were thrown into a tizzy on Tuesday after they received a call claiming that a terrorist was planning to trigger off blasts on Independence Day at Red Fort from where the Prime Minister addresses the nation. It later turned out to be a prank.

Around 2-30 p.m. the Police Control Room received the call in which the caller claimed that a terrorist, identified as one Rakesh, had plans to trigger off blasts on Independence Day. The call was traced to a public booth at Bhajanpura in North-east Delhi.

The caller had identified himself as Ravi but the police said that he had given a fake name. However, the police managed to trace Rakesh, a resident of New Usmanpur. "He had been living in Usmanpur for the past many years and has no criminal antecedents, let alone having any links with any terrorists," said a police officer. A bewildered Rakesh told the police that he did not have enmity with anyone and that it was difficult for him to suspect anyone for the prank played on him.

The police suspect that someone known to Rakesh could have played the prank.
