Dishing it out for the young

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Asianet Plus, the third channel from Asianet, being launched on Saturday, promises to be a `youthful channel,' having a slew of music, comedy and infotainment programmes targeted at the young viewers across the country irrespective of language barriers.

The new channel will lay special emphasis on new generation Malayalis within the country and abroad, Managing Director of Asianet K. Madhavan, told mediapersons here today.

The channel would fill the gap unattended by the general entertainment channels in Malayalam, he added.

The dreams, aspirations, hopes, lifestyles and the attitude of Malayali youth would be the essence of Asianet Plus. `Career Plus', dealing with courses, careers, etiquettes, customs, examinations and interviews, would be a unique programme, according to Chief Operating Officer of Asianet, Mohanan Nair, who is in-charge of the new channel.

All genre of music -- classical, folk, Indipop, filmi, ghazal, pop, rock and jazz -- would have a slot on the new channel. Film stars and other youth icons would be featured in various programmes and the anchoring would be in Malayalam and English.

The programme mix would not be totally music-oriented. Fashion, trends, quizzes, games, shows, travelogues, talk shows and celebrity interviews would be there to add spice to the fare. The USP of the channel would be a prime-time feature film every day. The aspirations, hopes, lifestyle of the youth in other cities of the country would be addressed later, said Mr. Madhavan.
