MACHILIPATNAM: Minister for Roads and Buildings J. Ramamohana Rao on Tuesday announced the sanction of Rs. 1.16 crores towards improvement of roads and drains in the town. He also promised to discuss with the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, steps to develop the port. Mr. Rao laid the foundation for the Rs. 2.75 crore four-lane road from Navakala to Nagapotharajuvari Centre. He said the Government was keen on linking all villages with the nearest municipalities with good roads and towards this a sum of Rs. 300 crores would be spent. Machilipatnam MP B. Ramakrishna and local MLA P. Venkataramaiah urged the Minister to sanction Rs. 60 lakhs towards improving basic amenities in the town. Mr. Ramakrishna promised to allocate funds from his budget. The District Collector, Naveen Mittla, also spoke.
