Joint Collector inaugurates screening of Telugu filmNissabdanni Chediddam

VIJAYAWADA: Joint Collector P. Sampath Kumar on Wednesday called upon elite people to work for eradicating AIDS and building a disease-free society.

He inaugurated the free screening of the Telugu feature film Nissabdanni Chediddam (let us break the silence), at Swarna Palace theatre here as part of the on-going AIDS Awareness and Sustained Holistic Action (AASHA) programme.

Stressing the need for infusing confidence among people suffering from the disease, Mr. Kumar said that the Government had taken steps to sensitise people right from the village-level.

Sarpanches were conducting gram sabhas in villages and creating awareness among people.

Similarly, the staff of the Medical and Health Department were taking blood samples of those with symptoms of the disease and offering services and counselling, he said.

Pornographic movies and websites were diverting the attention of youth and were creating a negative impact on them, he said, and felt that there was a need for propagating human values.

Mr. Kumar lauded the Vijayawada Film Exhibitors' Association for assisting the district administration in the screening of the feature film.

Chairman of the Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTM-UDA) Malladi Vishnu said that non-government organisations should assist the State Government to take up the campaign against AIDS and felt that unified effort would give good results.

Former MP Chennupati Vidya, District AIDS control officer B. Jagannadha Nayak, director of the film A. Ravichandra Prakash, in-charge Sub-Collector M. Jitendra, president of the Vijayawada Film Exhibitors' Association M. Venkateswara Rao, secretary R.V. Bhupala Prasad and others were present.
