JAIPUR: The second international Rajasthani conference will be organised in New York from July 1 to 4, 2006, under the aegis of the Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA). The main focus of the conference will be on education, literacy and social development of women in the desert State. The four-day event will witness deliberations and decisions on economic development of the State, travel and tourism, expansion of health services, charitable activities and cooperation and unity of the Rajasthani community all over the world. A delegation of RANA, headed by the chairperson of its New York unit, Ajay K. Lodha, apprised the Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, of the preparations for the summit as well as the pursuits of the association here on Tuesday. Dr. Lodha provided details of the activities to be undertaken during the conference and said an action plan for rendering assistance for women's education and nutrition would be formulated shortly. Ms. Raje called upon the Rajasthanis residing in northern parts of the U.S. to participate in the development of the land of their ancestors, while pointing out that the State Government had launched several innovative schemes to promote public-private partnership. She urged the non-resident Rajasthanis to participate in the schemes such as `adopt a monument', `adopt a school', and the mid-day meal scheme. Ms. Raje pointed out that a large number of voluntary organisations, business institutions, charitable bodies, philanthropists and private donors had evinced a keen interest in rendering help for the mid-day meal scheme in several districts. There was also an enormous potential for cooperation in the education sector by adopting schools, she added.
Medical tourism
The Chief Minister said steps had been initiated to explore the prospects of "medical tourism" in the State and sought the cooperation of RANA in strengthening the infrastructure for medical facilities along with the promotion of telemedicine facility, medical camps and medical tourism. Ms. Raje affirmed that special attention had been paid to strengthening of infrastructure for social and economic development of the State. Among others, the RANA secretary, Vinod Jain, patrons, Kamal Surana and Jugal Derewala, and senior officials of the Rajasthan Foundation were present on the occasion.
