CHENNAI: Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, in Vani Mahal will complete its 60th year on Thursday. A fortnight-long celebration has been organised. In 2002, the renovated structure was renamed after the Mahaswami of the Kanchi Math. To mark the occasion, the title, Vani Kala Sudhakara, will be conferred on the vocal musicians B. Rajam Iyer, D.K. Pattammal, M. Balamuralikrishna, and Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, N. Ramani (flautist), R. Pichumani (veena), Umayalpuram Sivaraman (mridangam) M.S. Anantharaman (violin), T.H. Vinayakram (ghatam), Srirangam Kannan (morsing), Mayavaram Somu (kanjira), R.S. Manohar (theatre), Cho. Ramaswamy (drama), Padma Subramanyam (nrityam), M.P.N. Ponnusamy Pillai (nagaswaram), A.K. Palanivel (tavil) on July 21 at 6 p.m. Akkineni Nageswara will inaugurate the event and B.K. Krishnaraja Vanavarayar, chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Coimbatore Kendra), will preside over the function. Industrialist P. Obul Reddy will honour Kamala Moorthy (Harikatha), Tirumalai Iyengar, S.R.D. Vaidyanathan, T. Srinivasan (mridangam), `Typist' Gopu and `Vadhyar' Raman (drama), Mamudiya Pillai (nagaswaram) and Muthukumaraswami Pillai (tavil) with Special Awards. Nalli Kuppusami Chetti will release the souvenir, which will be received by A.V.M Saravanan and N. Murali (Sri Krishna Sweets). The programmes from July 22 to August 7 (6.30 p.m.) will include music and dance concerts and plays.
