Call to celebrate `Vande Mataram' centenary
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The Freedom Movement Memorial Committee, a constituent of the Institute of Socialist Education, will celebrate the centenary of "Vande Mataram", the patriotic national song, on September 7.
Shashi Bhushan, former member of Parliament and committee chairman, has called upon the people to celebrate the centenary of the song.
The song was composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1876 and first recited by Rabindranath Tagore at the Calcutta session of the Congress.
Nationalism mantra
It became the mantra of nationalism and strengthened the people's resolve to overthrow the imperialist rule.
Vande Mataram was not merely a prayer song, but a pledge to rededicate ourselves in the service of the motherland to work for rejuvenation of the spirit of patriotism and national integration, he added.
