THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adoor Prakash has said that the State Government would communicate to the Centre its opposition to the proposal to replace ration cards with food coupons. Replying to a submission by Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan in the Assembly on Thursday, the Minister said though there had been reports that the Centre was planning to introduce food coupons, the Centre had not formally communicated anything to the State. Still, in view of the concern expressed by the Opposition Leader and around 14,000 retail ration dealers in the State, the Government would take up the issue with the Centre, he said.
