In Madurai, which has a record number of fan clubs for film personalities, it was a day to remember the colossus who left footprints on the screens of cinema halls across the State. Fans of Sivaji Ganesan, cutting across party lines, congregated at several places in Madurai on Wednesday to pay tributes to the legend. His portrait was garlanded and meetings were held to recollect his contribution to the enrichment of Tamil culture and cinema. At a meeting held at Victoria Edward Hall in Madurai, its secretary, I. Ismail, revealed a plan to organise seminars on Sivaji Ganesan to encourage research in the field. Candles were lit around Sivaji's bust installed under the Madura Coats Bridge by his fans.
