Demand reinstatement of road mazdoors

CHENNAI:
Employees owing allegiance to the Tamil Nadu Government Employees' Association (TNGEA) on Thursday staged a dharna at the district headquarters in the State in support of their 20-point charter of demands.
The employees staged the protest at Chepauk from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. demanding among other things reinstatement of 10,000 road mazdoors, merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with basic pay, granting 15 days leave surrender and recruitment of candidates on compassionate ground.
Even while welcoming the recent concessions announced by the Chief Minister, the employees were dismayed at the Government's failure to take the aspirations and expectations of the employees into account, a TNGEA release said.
