PALAKKAD: Work on the 45.3-km-long Kolappully-Palakkad and the 33 km-long Thrissur-Kuttipuram road costing Rs.147 crores will be completed by May 2006. After a joint inspection of the Kolappully-Palakkad road by the State Government officials and representatives of the Road Builders of Malasysia, who took the contract, on Thursday, Co-oridnator of the Kerala State Transport Project and Ottapalam Sub-Collector Dinesh Arora said that the major works have been completed and the road would be opened for traffic by May next year. He said that the road was constructed with 12 m carriage and 3 m drainage. But in Ottapalam town, the width of the road had to be reduced slightly owing to lack of space. In order to save some religious centres, the width had to be reduced in some other areas, he said. During the inspection, it was found that the delay in the completion of the Kulappully-Palakkad road was owing to the delay in relocating the utilities of the KSEB, KWA and the BSNL. There is also lack of coordination among these departments in relocating their utilities.
