KANNUR: The Kannur University Syndicate on Thursday urged the State Government to sanction 25 acres in the proposed textile park under the Textile Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme at Nadukani here for starting new textile technology courses. The Syndicate, which met on the Mangattuparamba campus under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor P. Chandramohan, also approved the Memorandum of Understanding for starting B.Sc. Nursing and BPT courses in the Thalassery Cooperative Hospital. The Syndicate also decided to implement in university's B.Ed. centres' fees concession for SC/ST and OEC students given in B.Ed. colleges. The Syndicate decided to conduct inspection for considering the proposal for making the Kottakkal Aryavaidya Sala's herbal garden into a research centre. The Syndicate also approved the Vice-Chancellor's recommendations regarding new courses and developmental works to be started to mark the 10th anniversary of the university. The meeting adopted a resolution demanding to the Government to assign land free of cost for starting new courses to further the development of the university. A resolution also asked the Government to sanction new courses in Government and aided colleges in view of the educational backwardness of the region.
