PONDICHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said here on Wednesday that a Rs.37-crore fishing harbour would be set up in Karaikal. Foundation for the project would be laid next week when Karaikal region would be formally declared a separate district, he told reporters. His government was implementing all the promises made on the floor of the Assembly and development of all outlying regions top on the agenda of programmes of the government. Lt. Governor M.M. Lakhera and the Chief Minister would visit Karaikal to formally accord district status to the region. The Regional Administrator of Karaikal has been designated the District Collector. Mahe and Yanam continue to be under the jurisdiction of Pondicherry district.
