RENDERED HOMELESS: This here is the scene at Hastinapur near Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday where several villages have been severely hit by the flood waters of overflowing Ganga.
DEHRA DUNLUCKNOWCHANDIGARH: Four persons were feared dead and nine injured when a flash flood, sparked off by a cloudburst, washed away five houses and badly damaged three more in the Vijay Nagar area of Augustmuni in Rudraprayag district of Uttaranchal on Thursday morning. The injured have been admitted to the local Primary Health Centre and senior district and police officials are overseeing rescue operations by the military and ITBP personnel. Relief camps have been established at a Stadium and Nehru Yuvak Kendra for the victims, the State Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre here said.

DEHRA DUNLUCKNOWCHANDIGARH: The Ganga breached the red mark at Narora in Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, while it continued to swell at Kanpur, Ghazipur and Ballia districts. The current situation is being attributed to the release of water from Narora Dam recently, the Central Water Commission said here. Ghagra was also flowing at par danger mark in Ayodhya, while the turbulent Rapti was rising all through its course and was expected to cross the red mark at Balrampur Friday morning. Other major rivers, such as the Yamuna, were rising at Agra and Etawah, Gomti at Nimsar and Sultanpur, Sai at Bani, Ghagra at Turtipur and Kuanon at Basti. The Met office said monsoon had been active mainly in east U.P. since Thursday and rain occurred at most places with very heavy rainfall in Gorakhpur, Faizabad and Lucknow divisions. Showers also lashed many areas in Varanasi divisions and a few places in the remaining divisions of the State. In the next 48 hours, rather heavy rainfall/thundershowers was likely at many places in the State. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall was likely in Meerut, Moradabad, Bareilly and Agra divisions. The maximum rainfall was recorded in Paliakalan (106 mm), Ayodhya (143 mm), Khadda (86), Katarniaghat (72), Kakardhari (65 mm), Bansi (65 mm), Kakarhi (56) and Elginbridge (47 mm). The State Government had already sounded an alert with flood relief plans put in place in view of immediate flood threat in over a dozen districts where around 300 villages are badly affected. Several villages in low lying areas have been water logged following incessant rainfall in the last few days. DEHRA DUNLUCKNOWCHANDIGARH: Rains continued to lash many parts in the northern region till Thursday morning, with Naraingarh in Haryana receiving the highest rainfall of 81 mm. Ambala was lashed by heavy rains at 23.5 mm, Kalka had 8 mm of rain, Chhachrauli 40 mm, Jagadhri 15 mm while Panchkula was lashed by showers at 2 mm, the Meteorological Department said here. Heavy showers lashed Chandigarh leaving many of its roundabouts and low-lying areas flooded and worsening the condition of many roads, particularly in southern sectors. In Punjab, Amritsar was lashed by showers at 28 mm, Ludhiana had 30.7 mm of rains, Nangal Dam area had 2.6 mm of rains, Balachaur 10.4 mm, Madhopur 32 mm and Shahpur Kandi had 3.4 mm of rains. In Himachal Pradesh, Shimla, Sundernagar, Pandoh, Kahu, Berthin, Sujanpur Thira, Nadaun, Guler, Nagrota Surien, Gamrur, Manali, Solang Nullah and Dhundi received rains.
