CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government plans to introduce Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in Gurgaon. A multi-national company based in British Virginia Island offered to build the system on Build Operate and Own (BOO) basis with 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment. A company representative gave a presentation to the Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, here on Thursday. He said that the company proposed to set up MRTS in the form of Magnetic Levitation Train Transit System in Gurgaon at no financial cost to the State. The 18-km long track would commence from IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon and run up to the point where Delhi Metro terminated. It would be based on magnetic field for propulsion and be pollution and noise-free. Besides, there would be elevated track and the train would be fire-proof. Also, there would be no threat of any head-on collision or any accident between two trains. He said that 60 passengers could be accommodated per section and one train could have 10 sections. The train would be centrally operated and have no driver in the cabin. He said the project would cost $ 20 million per km and the total project cost would be $ 400 million and it would be completed within three years. According to an estimate, he said, there would be 60,000 passengers per day and the fare would be Rs 1.50 per km. Others present on the occasion included the Transport Minister, Randeep Singh Surjewala, the Irrigation Minister, Ajay Yadav, the Chief Secretary, G.
