Srinagar blast

The terror attack in Srinagar outside a school, within 24 hours of talks between leaders of the Hurriyat and the Kashmiri Pandits, shows that some frustrated elements do not want peace to return to the Valley.

C.P. Velayudhan Nair,
Kochi, Kerala

Willpower and strategy are the only effective tools that can tackle ultras. Since terrorists in Kashmir have been isolated, action similar to what was taken in militancy-infested Punjab of the 1980s should be contemplated. We have to get Kashmir back from terrorists and restore it as a prominent tourist hub of India.

R. Raghavendra,
Bangalore

It is time our leaders realised that cricket matches are not going to bring peace to the region.

Nayanima Basu,
Ghaziabad, U.P.

The photograph of the body of a jawan being carried by security personnel (July 21) was disturbing. Surely, a person who sacrificed his life for the country deserved more respect in death? The security personnel could have been more sensitive to the feelings of the family members of the jawan.

K. Anujan & K.C. Sekar,
New Delhi

It is surprising to see fellow armymen carrying the body thus. It is understandable if it is wartime and the jawans do not want the body to fall into the enemy's hands. But it is clear from the picture that the body is being removed after the operation. At least The Hindu could have refrained from carrying the photograph in deference to the sentiments of the jawan's dear and near.

R.K. Murthy,
Coimbatore

I first thought the body was that of a terrorist. A jawan's body being carried with his face down is a sight that will forever be etched in my memory as a matter of shame. How inspired will the young be to join the armed forces after they see such pictures?

Sreeush Sreenivas,
Kozhikode, Kerala

It is indeed unfortunate that The Hindu carried the photograph on the front page. How many blood stained bodies did we all see post-9/11 or 7/7? Such sensation is eminently avoidable.

Anu Rag,
Kannur, Kerala
