BSNL launches broadband service

Connectivity problems may end in Khammam district

KHAMMAM: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) launched its broadband service -- DataOne --- in Khammam district on Thursday. Inaugurating the service, the district Collector, Rajendra Narendra Nimje, hoped that Khammam, which was all set to emerge as the e-district, would benefit the most from the new service.

The much-awaited broadband had become a reality for the people of Khammam and professionals such as doctors could use the service to extend better and prompt services to the people. It would help end the connectivity problems that the people at the district level had been facing for quite a long time.

Vital service

He said people would depend completely on the broadband service in the next four to five years. He said the administration, which had introduced services such as Parishkruti, an online grievance redressal mechanism, would also be benefited much from the service.

With a minimum speed of 256 kbps, surfing the Internet on broadband would be about 17.5 times faster than the normal dial-up. It would facilitate the simultaneous use of the phone and the Internet of a splitter.

BSNL had introduced separate tariff packages for home users and business. The home users can avail of the download speed of 256 kbps at Rs 500 per month without security deposit.

The BSNL General Manager, K. S. N. Murthy, said that the BSNL was geared to change the way of communications.

He hoped that the broadband would help end the woes of the dial users.
