HYDERABAD: A two-day conference of Collectors will begin on Friday focussing on land distribution, land acquisition for irrigation projects, a review of seasonal conditions and issue of ration cards. Chaired by the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the once-in-a-year meeting will be attended by Ministers, the Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, secretaries, heads of departments and other top officials. The Collectors are coming face to face with the policy makers after one year to highlight the practical problems faced by them during implementation of programmes. The second round of land distribution covering another lakh acres will be high on the agenda.
New scheme
The programme has been postponed to September first week with the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, indicating his availability around this time to inaugurate it, said the Revenue Minister, D. Prasada Rao. The Chief Minister is expected to get a feedback from the Collectors on the lands identified and acquired for the purpose. An RIDF scheme worth Rs 300 crores, attached to the programme for developing the distributed lands with irrigation sources such as borewells, is being grounded simultaneously this time. The Collectors who have been asked to acquire lands for irrigation projectswill provide a status picture to the Chief Minister, seeking amendments to the policy where they hit a road-block.
