Indians among leaders

NEW DELHI: Favourite Parimarjan Negi and three other Indians were among 26 leaders in the boys' under-12 section after two rounds of the World Youth chess championship at Belfort, France, on Wednesday.

S. P. Sethuraman, V. A. V. Rajesh and N. Srinath followed Negi to record successive victories. However, Srinath now comes up against Negi in the third round.

The other Indians with perfect scores were, Sahaj Grover and Shiven Khosla (boys under-10), Y. Sandeep and Sankalp Modwal (boys under-14), I. Ramya Krishna (girls under-14), D. Harika and Saheli Nath (girls under-16) and Soumya Swaminathan (girls under-18).

The results (involving Indians):

Second round: Boys (under-10): K. Harsh (1) lost to Jorge Cori (2); Vasanta Varman (1) lost to Ivan Bukavshin (2); Sahaj Grover (2) bt Fu Xiaoyong (1); Ian Ocampos (1) lost to Shiven Khosla (2); Erwin Rakotoniana (1.5) drew with Rishi Thariani (1.5); Romain Banos-Robles (0) lost to Surya Sudarshan (1); Subodh Shirodkar (0) lost to Carl Eidernert (1).

Under-12: Parimarjan Negi (2) bt Stephan Kaphle (1); Daniel Chan (1) lost to S. P. Sethuraman (2); V. A. V. Rajesh (2) bt Yusup Atabayev (1); N. Srinath (2) bt Karoly Szalay (1); Teng Yinglin (2) bt Prasanna Rao (1); M. Charyyev (0) lost to Hari Hara Sudhan (1).

Under-14: Sankalp Modwal (2) bt Ivan Salgado Lopez (1); Y. Sandeep (2) bt Yannick Borel (1); Michail Michaeldes (0.5) drew with Nikhil Shyam (0.5); Peter Jendrichovsky (1) bt T. Under-14: I. Ramya Krishna (2) bt Viola Vince (1); Pon. N. Krithika (1.5) bt Reka Kantor (0.5).

Under-16: D. Harika (2) bt Iryna Khudaya (1); Ana Fililpa Baptista (1.5) drew with Mary Ann Gomes (1.5); Saheli Nath (2) bt Monika Kaniak (1).

Under-18: Soumya Swaminathan (2) bt Pamela Dominguez (1); Stela Untila (1) lost to N. Vinuthna (1.5).
