RAJAHMUNDRY: Former Union Minister S.B.P.B.K. Satyanarayana Rao, has defended the recent speech of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Oxford University on beneficial consequences of British Colonial legacy in India. In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said that those leaders and so-called intellectuals and others , who criticised the speech of Prime Minister, have no complete knowledge about history and British era in India. Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said that the Prime Minister only mentioned about beneficial consequences of the Raj, saying that there were elements of the `British-Indian administration,' such as the rule of law and free press, which India still valued and cherished.
`Nothing wrong'
He said that there is nothing wrong in the Prime Minister saying about the Indian Constitution had deep roots in India's ancient civilization but were also influenced by the ideas of European enlightenment. The former Minister recalled how Krishna Menon, Rajani Pamidutt, who settled in the United Kingdom and the Britisher Perner Brakway, who supported the Indian Freedom struggle.
