KAKINADA: The first open heart surgery in the Government general hospital here was performed successfully on Thursday on a teen-aged girl, P.Padmalatha (18), a native of Rajahmundry, who had been suffering from a hole in the heart known as atrial septil defect. The four-hour critical operation was performed by Sudhakararao, cardio-thoracic surgeon. A team of four, including two medical and two para-medical personnel from the GSL hospital, Rajahmundry, assisted him. `The girl has the congenital problem which was detected a few years ago.
