MYSORE: The controversy over renaming a circle at Vani Vilas Mohalla took an ugly turn on Thursday when followers of the late Chikkanna Das went on a rampage at the Mysore City Corporation office building. The incident took place when the followers of Chikkanna Das, founder of Sri Lakshmi Venkataramana Swamy Temple, who were staging a protest in front of the corporation office for renaming the circle after their leader, went berserk after the officials refused to concede their demand. Members of the Backward Classes Forum, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti, Chikkanna Das Fans' Association and other organisations in the city along with the area corporator, Chikkamma Basavaraju, have been staging a protest urging the corporation to rename the circle after Chikkanna Das. They said the officials should take a decision on their demand soon. Though the corporation had named the circle after Chikkanna Das, it did not install a name board. The members had installed a name board, which was removed some time ago. The members demanded that the board be returned to them. However, the officials permitted them to install the board at the circle.
