`Such a plan is working successfully in A.P. The Directorate of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement is keen on replicating it'

MYSORE: The Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement in Karnataka has appealed to ex-servicemen in the State to come together and form groups of 60 people and start business enterprises with government aid.

Addressing presspersons after the inauguration of an ex-servicemen's polyclinic at Devayya Bhavan here on Thursday, the Director of the Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement, Karnataka, Col. C.M. Uthaiah (Retd.), said the Government finds it difficult to provide jobs to lakhs of ex-servicemen. A recent meeting on the matter in New Delhi mooted the idea of providing Government aid to groups of ex-servicemen who come forward with a viable business module.

The Directorate of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement in Karnataka has sent letters to its district offices in the State to send inputs on viable business ventures in the respective regions.

"If ex-servicemen can form groups and come forward with business proposals, the Directorate will coordinate with Government agencies to provide them subsidy, financial aid and raw material support," Col. Uthaiah said. Such a plan is working successfully in Andhra Pradesh and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement in Karnataka is keen on replicating it in the State, he said.

Meanwhile, Brigadier M.K.G. Menon, Commander of Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, Ministry of Defence, who inaugurated the polyclinic, said the polyclinic was a long-pending demand of ex-servicemen residing in remote areas of Mysore district.

Earlier, Major General C.K. Karumbaya (Retd.), who was the chief guest, urged the directorate to ensure proper facilities at the Devayya Bhavan for ex-servicemen.

Maj. Gen. Karumbaya appealed to the Government to increase the financial allocation for NCC.
