THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister K. K. Ramachandran has said that the Government has issued orders making the criteria for purchase of drugs stringent. Responding to a calling-attention motion moved by Mankode Radhakrishnan (CPI) in the Assembly on Thursday, the Health Minister said that beginning this year, drugs would be purchased only after the Drugs Control authorities inspected the factories. Both factories within and outside the State would be subjected to inspection, he said. Mr. Ramachandran said it had also been stipulated that drug companies should produce quality assurance certificate from accredited laboratories with each batch of drugs. Random samples were also being taken for tests and money was being released to the drug companies only after the samples were cleared.
