SHIMOGA: Kargal in Shimoga district to Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir is certainly a far cry. An adventurous group of people from Shimoga and Chikmagalur set out on a "peace drive" from Kargal to Kargil on Thursday. Y.V. Shashidhar of the Gutti Medical Centre of Shimoga; Nagesh Naik, an industrialist of Shimoga; D.N. Srinivas a businessman of Shimoga; P.S. Rajasekharaiah, Professor in Telecommunications at the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering of Shimoga, and N. Mahesh, a coffee planter of Chikmagalur, will undertake their "peace march" on road in a Toyota Qualis. What has reportedly inspired them to take up the adventurous feat is the call given by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, during his visit to the Siachen Glaciers declaring it a "zone of peace" The team plans to reach Pir Panjal (Kargil) on July 30 after passing through Bijapur, Sholapur, Aurangabad, Ellora, Guna, Gwalior, Agra, Delhi, Hardwar, Chandigarh and Manali. In its return, the team will start from Pir Panjal on July 31and reach Shimoga on August 18 after passing through Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Mahabaleshwar and Goa.
