Draft poll rolls to be released on August 1

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The draft electoral rolls for the 39 Assembly constituencies where intensive revision was taken up will be published on August 1. Claims and objections can be filed till August 16, said a press release from Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta. The final publication of rolls is scheduled for September 15.

For the Assembly constituencies covered by summary revision, the period for disposal of claims and objections has been extended to July 31. The date of publication of final rolls will remain August 31 for them.

The extension of time for preparation of draft rolls in the constituencies where intensive revision was taken up became necessary to enable comparison with the manuscript and checklists of data entry for draft rolls before its publication. Also, it was essential to ensure that the disposal of claims and objections was done in accordance with the special instructions of the Election Commission.
