HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged a dharna at the Ranga Reddy district Collectorate on Thursday opposing the Government's move to create Greater Hyderabad including parts of Ranga Reddy district.
No job opportunities
The dharna was attended by the former Union Minister, Bandaru Dattatreya, the former MLA, Baddam Bal Reddy, the Ranga Reddy district unit president, S. Malla Reddy, and BJYM leaders. The district BJYM president, N. Pavan Kumar, and the general secretaries, S. Venkatramana Reddy and K. Madhava Reddy, said unemployed youth of the district would lose job opportunities, as they would come under the free zone open for every one in the State. "It is against the spirit of six point formula," they maintained.
Argument derided
They ridiculed the argument that more funds would come in for Greater Hyderabad. In fact, the municipalities in the district would lose funds that they get from various funding agencies thus affecting development. The 10 municipalities were now earning Rs. 250 crores and this money would have to be shared by the city. People would also be burdened with enhanced house tax, professional tax and betterment charges and it would reflect on the lifestyle of the people, particularly the lower and middle class families. They wanted to know why the Government had taken such a drastic decision overnight without consulting political parties and the people who would be affected. They threatened to launch an agitation if the Government did not drop the idea.
