HYDERABAD: The Shamirpet police opened two rounds of fire into the air when an alleged gang of dacoits attacked their vehicle taking it for a passenger vehicle on Mazidpur crossroads-Medchal road after midnight on Wednesday. While four of the gang were rounded up, their leader managed to escape. Five members of the gang, all hailing from the Raj Bollaram tribal village of Medchal mandal, allegedly broke into the office of a roadside factory near Mazidpur crossroads around midnight. owever, they could not get anything valuable except for some calculators, the Shamirpet Sub-Inspector Prabhakar Reddy said. All five were reportedly drunk.
Lorry driver attacked
Later, they blocked the road with some boulders stopping a lorry going towards Karimnagar. They dragged the driver out, beat him up, snatched Rs. 1,000 from him before releasing him. When the lorry driver informed a police patrolling party about the dacoits, it rushed to the spot, switching off the lights of the jeep it was travelling in.
