No drinking water supply today

TIRUCHI: Drinking water will remain suspended in the following areas on Friday due to a burst in the pumping mains of the Golden Rock Drinking Water Scheme near Ariyamangalam on the Chennai By-pass Road: Ariyamangalam, Melakalkandarkottai, Sangliandapuram, Senthaneerpuram, Subramaniapuram, Golden Rock, Ponmalaipatti, Airport, Khajamalai, Crawford, Anbu Nagar, TVS Nagar, Mannarpuram, Kallukuzhi, Sundar Nagar and Renga Nagar. The supply will be resumed on Saturday, according to a Corporation release.

Govt. employees observe fast

Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees' Association observed a fast here on Thursday to press their demands such as restoration of all concessions and benefits.

The president of the Tiruchi district unit of the association, M.V. Senthamil Selvan, led the fast. The State secretary, A. Rajapather, wound up the fast.

Coaching for exams

The Centre for Youth Development and Studies of Bharathidasan University will begin its three-month coaching with a stipend for aspirants of Group `A' and other competitive examinations.

In a release, S. Iyyampillai, coordinator of the centre, said Rs.225 and Rs.700 would be paid as stipend to local and outstation candidates respectively, out of funds provided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Coaching will begin on August 1 at the IECD building on the Khajamalai campus of the university.

The test for selecting 100 graduates for the coaching will begin at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday.
