A thankless job
People are seldom considerate to the men in khaki. But they deserve all the care and sympathy, for the thankless job they do standing on the roads day in a day out, feels A.K. Khan, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
Narrating an incident, Mr. Khan said, he had once enquired with a constable about the latter's personal life. The constable said he had two children but he couldn't tell how old they were. Instead the cop made a gesture with his hands horizontally to indicate how big his kids were. "I was surprised and asked him why didn't he move his hands vertically," Mr. Khan said. "Sir, when I go home they are sleeping and when I come for duty in the morning they are still sleeping," the cop replied.
