APCC gears up for municipal polls

  • Each district to have poll coordination panel
  • PCC to start Rajiv Nagar Bheri campaign on July 28
  • Party to hold street corner meetings

    HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has launched its preparations for the forthcoming municipal elections by constituting four member-district civic election coordination committees for each district.

    It is also launching nine-day long intensive campaign in all municipalities going by the name of `Rajiv Nagara Bheri' on July 28.

    The APCC general secretary, S. Yadava Reddy, and secretary, T. Padmaraju, at a press conference here on Thursday said the District Congress Committees along with the coordination panels had been entrusted the task of campaign, selection of candidates and mass contact programmes in each municipal wards during the programme.

    The coordination committees would comprise the DCC president, the district in-charge Minister and two representatives from the PCC. The district committee would name five-member panels for each municipality. Three aspirants from each ward would be short-listed and the best nominee with good credentials and excellent rapport with voters would be selected.

    New programme

    Mr. Padmaraju said that coinciding with the civic polls, Rajiv Nagara Bheri programme would be launched in all municipalities and corporations on July 28 with flag hoisting and workers meeting. From July 29 to 31, `Prajahitha yatra' - mass contact programme - would be organised. It would be followed by street corner meetings between August 1 and 3 to redress their grievances.

    On August 4, the Congress leaders would present a memorandum to the Government highlighting the problems confronted in each municipality. The campaign would conclude on August 5.
