NEW DELHI: Salaried employees and pensioners not possessing Permanent Account Numbers will still be able to file their income tax returns during the special camp being organised by the Income Tax Department at Pragati Maidan here from July 28 to 31. This has been made possible by the opening of a counter of NSDL -- a subsidiary of UTI -- where people will be able to apply for the PAN number and immediately thereafter would be able to file their returns on the basis of the receipt issued to them. This facility, introduced for the first time, will enable many to conveniently file their returns along with those already having a PAN. As the last date for filing of Income Tax returns for the assessment year 2005-06 (financial year 2004-05) for persons having income from salary and pension is July 31, the process of filing of returns has been facilitated by the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Delhi XIII through the setting up of special counters at Pragati Maidan. At the counters, salary and pension cases of Delhi, other than those having income from business and profession, will be taken up. The special counters will receive returns of salaried taxpayers, pensioners and senior citizens deriving income from pensions. They would be held at Hall No. 11 Gate No. 7 in Pragati Maidan from July 28 to 31 and will be open all days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Separate counters will be set up for senior citizens (above 65 years of age) who derive income from pension. Enquiry counters will also be set up to take care of all the general and specific queries of the taxpayers. The taxpayers having salary or pension income will have to file their returns in Form No. 2D, 2E, ITS 3 (Saral, New Saral and Saral ITS 3 Return of Income). The Department has advised taxpayers to file their returns before July 28 in order to avoid last-minute rush and inconvenience. From July 28 to July 31, the returns will be accepted only at the special counters in Pragati Maidan and not at Mayur Bhavan.
