NEW DELHI: To popularise animation among little ones, Disney Channel is screening its cartoon programme "Playhouse Disney" in pre-schools across the Capital. Aimed at enhancing children's imagination and intelligence, Disney Channel intends to get a feedback from teachers about the impact their cartoon programme has on the minds of kindergarten kids. With this exercise, the Channel also hopes to stimulate interest among kids who do not see "Playhouse Disney" when it is aired from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 10-30 a.m. on weekends. Incorporating animation, puppetry and live action to both entertain and educate children, the Channel has added an Indian touch by showing characters speaking in Hindi. "From our rich Disney library we have chosen animations that are culturally neutral. While trying to popularise nutritious meals among children, we are recommending Indian meals and not macaroni and cheese. We are familiarising kids with the animal kingdom and, most importantly, we are trying our best to make them treat books as a source of knowledge and not something to be feared, " says the Head of Production and Programming of Walt Disney Television International (India), Nachiket Pantvaidya. The programme's high learning value is based on the whole child curriculum, a syllabus developed in consultation with an expert. This curriculum-based approach aspires to stimulate thinking skills, academics learning, instil moral and social lessons and encourage creativity and artistic expressions. Besides "Rolie Polie Olie", "Stanley", "The Book of Pooh" and "PB and J Otter", Playhouse Disney also includes four locally produced segments -- "Sair Sapata", "Pet Pooja", "Hanste Khelte" and "Studio Activities" -- in which kids get to learn about the world around them, cook a dish, bathe their pets and participate in songs, dance and crafts through interactive communication.
