LONDON: England batsman Graham Thorpe announced his retirement from Test cricket on Friday. In a statement, Thorpe said: ``My partner is having a baby in the next couple of weeks and I have decided that I want to concentrate on my family life." The 35-year-old Surrey left-hander last month became only the eighth England player to appear in 100 Tests when he played against Bangladesh in the second Test at the Riverside. But, having already retired from One-day Internationals, Thorpe's Ashes place was called into question when he announced he would be coaching in New South Wales next year while England was on tour of India. In 100 Tests, Thorpe scored 6,744 runs at an average off 44.66 with 16 hundreds, 39 fifties and a highest score of 200 not out against New Zealand in Christchurch in 2002. He also took 105 catches. And in 82 ODIs he scored 2,380 runs at 37.18 with a best of 89 against Zimbabwe in Brisbane in 1994-95. AFP
