Pact signed with six U.S. universities
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
Six leading U.S. universities have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Amrita University for an Indo-U.S. inter-university collaborative initiative in higher education and research.
The tie-up is expected to help enhance science and engineering education in the country over a new satellite e-learning network. The MoU was signed on Wednesday as part of the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's visit to the U.S. Funding for U.S. participation in the programme will come from Qualcomm Incorporated, Microsoft Corporation and Cadence Design Systems Inc., according to a release issued here by Qualcomm.
The release said the MoU will bring in the best of U.S. university professors to Amrita University, which will deploy and manage its e-learning platform for delivery of interactive multimedia-enriched lectures. The professors from these universities will take classes for a semester or two. The classes will be aired through EDUSAT to over 250 professional colleges in the country.
