DHARMASTHALA: The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is thinking of implementing a plan to make payment to cooperative milk societies on the basis of quality of milk supplied to milk dairies (plants), board director Job S. Prakash, said here on Friday. He told The Hindu that quality milk should contain less bacteria counts. The milk societies supply milk to dairy plants. If more time is taken to transport milk collected to bulk milk coolers or to dairy plants, the count of bacteria will go up. Hence to promote quality milk production, there is a plan to make payment on the basis of quality of milk. He said that 10 bulk milk coolers have been installed in Dakshina Kannada. This is to ensure that consumers get at least 80 per cent of the milk from bulk milk coolers in the district. Mr. Prakash said the board has given mnemonic symbol to nine cooperative milk unions in Karnataka. The symbol indicates national identity in quality milk production. It has helped to boost sale of milk.
